The fruits of a US$20-million renovation to Hyatt Cancun Caribe Resort debuted in fall 2006. This fall the resort will make another long-awaited debut-an all-new conference facility. The new venue, totaling 7,062 square feet, will host meetings for up to 1,100 participants in sunny Cancun, Mexico.
The new Laguna Conference Center joins two original venues at the resort, plus outdoor function space around the pool and on the beach, where affairs under the stars have a touch of magic.
Last year's remodel transformed every aspect of the resort. Housed in three structures-the ocean-view main building, the beach front Premier Tower, and the Regency Club-all 296 rooms and suites received new decor, including marble floors and a palette of tranquil colors. The standard amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite programming, in-room safes, and high-speed Internet access.
For participants seeking the upper echelon of luxury, the Regency Club hits the mark. The standalone building houses 37 units, all with direct access to a prime stretch of beach. VIP amenities include alarm clocks with iPod connectivity, LCD TVs, DVD players, fine linens, whirlpool tubs, and Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Highly personalized service reflects the boutique nature of the Regency Club, where, along with butler, concierge, and turndown services, guests enjoy complimentary Continental breakfast and evening hors d’oeuvres and cocktails in a private ocean-view lounge.
Another renaissance of sorts took place at the resort's three restaurants. The newly remodeled Blue Bayou specializes in Cajun and Creole cuisine, accompanied by live jazz. Its accolades include the AAA Four Diamond Award and the only DiRoNA recognition in Cancun. Cafe Cocay & Terrace presents a casual venue for breakfast and dinner buffets, while La Concha serves Mexican and international seafood dishes by the beach. A 24-hour deli, pool bar, coffeehouse, and jazz club round out the offerings.
When business gives way to leisure time, participants often head to the beach, the two swimming pools, or the health club for a workout or massage. Recreation nearby includes tennis, sailing, waterskiing, snorkeling, diving, fishing, and golf. Numerous shops, restaurants, and clubs wait a short cab ride away. A bit farther afield, the Mayan ruins at Tulum, Coba, and Chichén Itza provide attractive options for day trips.
Despite the introduction of modern new facilities, the resort sought to retain two of its most touted qualities-natural charm and attentive, caring service. Today, business groups enjoy the best of both worlds in the heart of Cancun.
